In an age where more and more of us are choosing to
lead a solo life, here's a shock to the system.
A group of artists are encouraging as many people
as possible to head to Nottingham's Arboretum on Sunday April 30th
2006 to take part in a massive hug-in.
But this will be no quick embrace and then off you
go, these hugs will last for 15 minutes and could involve getting
close to a complete stranger.
It's probably an occasion for extroverts because
the whole experience is going to be filmed and then put on a website
for all to see.
The idea comes from the Gao Brothers, Chinese
artists who are going around the world encouraging people to become
involved in World Hug Day performances.
They're hoping at least 150 volunteers will take
part in the individual hug followed by a mighty group hug (just like
those football teams do before a game!). And you won't suffer in
silence; the whole show will be accompanied by the music of JS
Bach.
